Rastrum Ltd

at Rye Wharf

Rastrum Ltd is a major force in the development of the Wharf, which was once a hive of activity and an important port for trade and defence. The company was established in 1996 by two businessmen - Rod Chapman and the late Dick Benge - who saw the potential of the distressed and dormant Wharf and transformed it into a busy enterprise with storage and office space.

Rye Wharf

Rastrum Ltd is situated in the ancient cinque port of Rye, one of the five ports that had special privileges from the Crown in exchange for providing ships and sailors in times of war. Rye has witnessed many events and changes over the centuries, from invasions and raids by the French and the Spanish, to smuggling and shipbuilding activities, to the gradual silting up of the harbour and the retreat of the sea.
